May marks a significant moment in our calendars: Mental Health Awareness Week. While awareness is the vital first step, this year’s theme is Action. It’s about moving beyond "knowing" and stepping into "doing"—finding the practical, sustainable rituals that protect our peace.
A Journey from Disconnection to Discovery
My path to becoming a yoga teacher wasn't sparked by a love for flexible poses; it was born out of a deep, personal need for survival. As a teenager, I struggled profoundly with my own mental health. I spent an entire year feeling completely dissociated from myself—as if I were watching my life happen from behind a glass pane.
It took several more years to truly unpick the layers and understand how I had lost my happiness. Looking back, I realize how much I would have benefited from the tools of yoga and mindfulness during those formative, turbulent years. That "missing piece" is what drives my work today.
Grounded in Science, Guided by Wisdom
Because of my personal history, I’ve always been drawn to the "why" behind the "how." One of my very first steps after qualifying as a teacher was to dive into Teen Yoga Therapy training with the incredible Charlotta Martinus. This wasn’t just about yoga; it was an intensive look at neuroscience and the specific mental health tools that help regulate a nervous system in crisis.
To further deepen my clinical understanding, I sought out specialist training in Mental Health & Wellness with Dr. Lisa Kaley-Isley. Her guidance allowed me to bridge the gap between ancient yogic philosophy and modern psychological frameworks.
I took a deep dive into Mental Health & Wellness with Tiffany Cruickshank, founder of Yoga Medicine. This extensive module covered modern pyschology, Five Element Theory and the Chakra System.
Moving into Action: The Holistic Health Programme
Mental health isn't a destination; it’s an ecosystem. If you are feeling "stuck," "anxious," or "disconnected," simply talking about it often isn't enough. We have to involve the body to heal the mind.
This is exactly why I created my Holistic Health Programme. It is the culmination of everything I’ve learned—from my own recovery to my specialist clinical training. It blends:
Ancient Insights: Using TCM and Yogic philosophy to understand your body’s energy.
Neuroscience: Practical tools to "reset" your nervous system when anxiety strikes.
Practical Self-Care: Strategies tailored to your busy, modern life.
This Month’s Challenge
For Mental Health Awareness Week, I invite you to take one small action. Whether it’s 5 minutes of mindful breathing, applying an essential oil eg Serenity (by doTERRA) to a calming acupressure point such as Yin Tang (between the eyebrows), or finally reaching out for support—action is the antidote to despair.
Ready to build your own toolkit? If you’re ready to move from awareness into deep, transformative action, I’d love to welcome you into my Holistic Health Programme. Let’s work together to ensure you never feel dissociated from your own happiness again.
