Seasonal Ritual

Eventually there comes a day when the comfortable warmth vanishes and there are signs of the change to come.  There is a crispness to the days, a nip in the air and a chill to the wind.  Leaves begin to leave their trees.  We are transitioning from Earth to Metal; nature's energy begins to descend and contract and days shorten.  The movement to autumn provides more space, more time to breathe.  It invites reflection and contemplation, and a settling.

Here's a few tips to support you through this seasonal transition with ease.​

1. Protect yourself from germs with doTERRA On Guard Stick, inhale Air for clear respiration and diffuse Air-X to purify your environment.

2. Eat WHITE foods to nourish your Lungs and Large Intestine, like garlic (a natural antibiotic with cancer-preventing properties) and onions.  Warm foods like leek and potato soup or pear soup with cinnamon, ginger and honey (a lung tonic), and aloo gobi (pungent taste) are best now.

3. A recipe for letting go of pain or whatever no longer serves you: place a drop of Vetiver or Lavender on acupoint Liver 3 (found in the soft valley between the big toe and second toe, about two finger-widths up from the webbing toward your ankle) and simultaneously press Large Intestine 4, located in the fleshy mound between thumb and finger.  

4. The primary emotion of the Metal Element is grief, which is most active at 3-5am.  Unresolved grief is stored in the lungs.  Grief is normal and natural and eases with the passage of time.  Place your hands on your heart and be with the breath.

5. Clear space to move and breathe by tidying up the garden and de-cluttering your stuff. As we perform these tasks, do so with care, precision, exactitude and mindfulness to align with the qualities of Metal.
